This is 'Splotchy Orange' which was built
in mid-August 2006. It's a 8'6" x 22.25" x 3.25" semi-longboard.
I found just enough time and materials before a two week
trip to the beach to build this. The was named 'Splotchy
Orange' because I ran out of paint during the foam spray. It
turned out splotchy, for lack of a better word.
Built out of a Clark Blue 8'8"E blank that was purchased a
few weeks prior to Black Monday. I also have a 7'9"E, a
7'3", and a6'9"A in the garage waiting for another day.
Specifics:
8'6" x 22.25" x 3.25" with a pulled tail, V-bottom [3/8"] to
flat middle to belly front. 60/40 rails front to back. One
10.5" center fin box and two ProBox Hawaii boxes. I used
polyester resin. UV cure for the lam and hot coats.
Glassing: 6,6 deck -- 5,4 bottom. I have this 5 oz cloth
that I bought on the internet for a good price, but the
weave is really tight. I had a lot of trouble wetting it out
on the rails and on the lap. It took me an hour to lap the
stuff and I was so happy that I didn't add a drop of
catalyst to the lam resin! I had a feeling that I was going
to have problems with this cloth. The 5oz cloth is free to a
good home [pick-up or you pay postage and packing]. I have
like 150 yards of it and it's 48" wide. Maybe it's good for
airplane wings or something...
